Temporary road closures will go into effect this weekend to accommodate a pair of 5K races happening in Yorktown and Pentagon City.
The Jennifer Bush-Lawson Memorial 5K & Family Carnival in the Yorktown neighborhood and the 2024 Girls on the Run 5K in the Pentagon City area take place this Saturday and Sunday, prompting some morning closures in and around those neighborhoods.
The tenth annual race honoring the life of the late Bush-Lawson, a mother and advocate for prenatal and maternal health care, will take place on Saturday.
Remarks and a warm-up will start at 8:30 a.m. before the 9 a.m. run, while the carnival will last from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. A kids fun run will begin after the 5K course is cleared, likely around 10 a.m.
All events take place at the Knights of Columbus building at 5115 Little Falls Road.
On Sunday, the Northern Virginia chapter of Girls on the Run will also host a celebratory end-of-season 5K.
That race begins at 8:30 a.m. at Grace Hopper Murray Memorial Park located at 1401 S. Joyce Street. Several Arlington schools are expected to participate.

The Arlington County Police Department will conduct road closures to accommodate two upcoming events taking place during the weekend of Saturday, November 23 – Sunday, November 24, 2024.
2024 Jennifer Bush-Lawson 5k
The 10th annual Jennifer Bush-Lawson Memorial 5k & Family Carnival will take place in the Yorktown neighborhood on Saturday, November 23 beginning at 9:00 a.m. The following roadways will be closed from approximately 8:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. to accommodate the event:
- Yorktown Boulevard, from Little Falls Road/N. Greenbrier Street to N. Kensington Street
- Little Falls Road, from N. Edison Street to Yorktown Boulevard and from Yorktown Boulevard/N. Kensington Street to N. Ohio Street
- N. Lexington Street, from Yorktown Boulevard to 27th Street N.
- 27th Road N., from the dead end to N. Lexington Street
- 27th Street N., from N. Lexington Street to N. Ohio Street
- John Marshall Drive at 27th Street N.
- N. Ohio Street, from 27th Street N. to Little Falls Road
When safe to do so, residents of the affected areas will be escorted through the road closures, as necessary, to minimize the impact on the community. All roadways are expected to reopen at 10:30 a.m. Community members are asked to park vehicles in driveways to reduce the congestion on the course and to allow for standard traffic conditions to return as quickly as possible.
2024 Girls on the Run 5k Race
The 2024 Girls on the Run 5k Race will take place in Pentagon City on Sunday, November 24, and will begin at 8:30 a.m. The following roadways will be closed in order to accommodate the event:
From approximately 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.:
- S. Joyce Street, from 16th Street S. to Army Navy Drive
- Army Navy Drive, from S. Joyce Street to 23rd Street S.
Additional Information
The public should expect to see an increased police presence in the area, and motorists are urged to follow law enforcement direction, be mindful of closures, and remain alert for increased pedestrian traffic. Other roads not mentioned may be closed at law enforcement discretion and in the interest of public safety.
In addition, area street parking may be restricted. Motorists should be on the lookout for temporary “No Parking” signs and illegally parked vehicles may be ticketed or towed.
