Tucson Police: Driver killed after vehicle crashes into light pole

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - The Tucson Police Department says a driver was killed after his vehicle crashed into a light pole.

The crash happened late Tuesday night, November 26, in the 5400 block of south Nogales Highway.

The 44-year-old driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say evidence indicated the Jeep was traveling north on Nogales Highway at high speeds when the driver lost control.

The vehicle slid west across all lanes of traffic before crashing into a light pole.

Police say the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle.

Detectives found evidence of alcohol consumption at the scene.

Excessive speed and impairment are believed to be the contributing factors of the collision, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The name of the driver has not yet been released.
