ANNAPOLIS, Md. — In a continued effort to enhance community safety, the Annapolis Police Department will host a no-questions-asked gun turn-in event on Saturday, November 23, 2024. The event, titled “Operation Secure Your Home,” encourages residents to voluntarily surrender firearms, no matter the condition, as part of a proactive approach to prevent gun-related incidents.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., individuals can participate by placing their unloaded firearms in the trunk of their vehicle and driving to the police station at 199 Taylor Avenue. Officers will retrieve the firearms directly from vehicles in a drive-up process, ensuring anonymity for participants.
According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, unintentional firearm injuries claim hundreds of lives annually in the U.S., and unlocked or unmonitored guns in homes are a leading factor. Events like Saturday’s provide an opportunity for individuals to dispose of unwanted firearms safely and responsibly.
Participants are reminded to ensure all firearms are unloaded before arriving and to follow the specific instructions for placing them in the trunk of their vehicles. Police officers will oversee the process to guarantee safety and efficiency.
For more information, residents can contact the Annapolis Police Department at (410) 268-9000.
