A young woman worried about her boyfriend's mental health was found dead alongside him and his mother at his mother's home in Cary, North Carolina, in a tragic incident on Monday, it was reported.

Officers arrived at a home on the 100 block of Smokemont Drive off of SW Cary Parkway and Old Apex Road just after 3 p.m. that day, where they found 19-year-old Aminah Michelle Guy, her 19-year-old boyfriend, Xavier Neil Holton, and his 54-year-old mother, Erica Alsye Holton, dead from gunshot wounds.

A weapon of an unknown caliber as reportedly recovered from the scene. An ensuing investigation into the deaths revealed the mental health struggles the younger Holton faced, which seemingly began after a nasty car crash he had been involved in just a week prior in Raleigh. Cary, where the bodies were found, is a suburb of the North Carolina capital located just to its west.

The North Carolina Central University student had reportedly ben speeding along Interstate 440 East near Crabtree Valley Mall just past Glenwood Avenue, traveling around 100 mph on Nov. 8.

Holton reportedly crashed into a parked car, causing it and his own vehicle to burst into flames. The manager of the towing company that later responded to the crash told WRAL it was "one of the worst" crashes she'd ever seen.

That's when Holton began hearing voices, Guy's mom, Angela, told WRAL. "She said there were mental illness issues," the older Guy told the local media outlet. "He was hearing voices and things like that."

She added that her daughter had met Holton when the two were freshman in a co-ed dorm at NCCU and that they had been dating for over a year. She called her daughter "beautiful inside and out" and added, "She had a lot of friends. She had so many dreams that she wanted to accomplish."

Cary police told the outlet that investigators are aware of Holton's struggles with mental health, stating that the family had shared them with the police, but they're not sure whether those struggles contributed to Monday's incident.

Angela told WRAL that Holton had just broken up with her daughter and was allegedly trying to get back together with her. She said, "I'd been texting with her all throughout the day, but she didn't respond. So, I don't know. I don't know when she passed away."

The mother had reportedly told her daughter to distance herself from Holton but that Aminah was seen getting into Erica Holton's vehicle on Monday morning. That afternoon, the elder Holton's boyfriend discovered the bodies inside the home and called 911.

The North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is reportedly examining the bodies and hasn't yet ruled on the official cause of death, which is assumed to be gunshot wounds.

The incident is also not officially being ruled a homicide or murder-suicide. The investigation is still unfolding.
