New York snow forecast: See projected snowfall totals, NYC details as winter storm rolls in

Areas of New York are forecast to be battered by several inches of snow into Saturday morning as the state is among several in the Northeast and northern Mid-Atlantic regions grappling with winter weather.

The inclement weather could cause travel headaches ahead of Thanksgiving. As several storm are being tracked in New York City, those attending the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade are advised to "prepare for the possibility of some rain," AccuWeather said.

Central New York is under a winter storm warning until 4 p.m. Friday as snow totals were forecasted to accumulate dependent on elevation, according to the National Weather Service. In valleys, 1-4 inches of snow could fall, but areas above 1,500 feet in elevation could be hit with up to a foot of snow, the weather service said. The highest elevations could have snowfall of up to 16 inches.

The weather service warned that the snow could slow down travel and could impede commuters during the Friday morning and evening commutes. The heavy snow could also weigh down trees and power lines, NWS said.

"If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency," the weather service said. to those in the affected area.

Another 1-2 inches per hour were forecasted to hit western portions of the Catskills, the weather service said.

In Albany, a winter storm warning remains in effect until 1 a.m. Saturday in the capital and surrounding areas, where 6-12 inches of snow could hit, according to the National Weather Service.
