Martha is known for her lavish holiday celebrations, but this year her itinerary looks a little different. Rather than celebrating Thanksgiving at home, the queen of entertaining will spend the holiday abroad with family.
Martha, her daughter Alexis, and two grandchildren, Jude and Truman, will spend Thanksgiving in Rome this year. "We decided the kids wanted to go away, the grandchildren, and so we're all packing up and going to Rome for a few days to visit the sites," she told People.
While it is a switch-up from her usual Thanksgiving celebration, Martha still has an incredible holiday planned. "We have such an itinerary," she said. "My grandchildren will get mad at me. They think they're going on vacation for five days, but in fact, we are going to see everything. I've planned quite a trip."
But perhaps even more surprising than Martha spending Thanksgiving abroad is that her celebration will be turkey-free. During a recent Today Show segment, Martha said she has a lot of vegetarians in her family, and even though she raises her own turkeys, "they have been pardoned" because she and her loved ones plan to eat only vegetarian dishes this year.
During the segment, she showed how to make a delicious, vegetarian, brioche stuffing filled-roasted pumpkin. It's filled with flavorful stuffing made with brioche, celery, onions, orchard fruit, and herbs. “The sides of any Thanksgiving can be everything,” she says. “This recipe is ‘the everything’ side that your guests will ooh and ahh over.”
