Ret. Gen. Mark Milley assured MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle that the United States will “be okay” during President-elect Donald Trump’s forthcoming administration this week despite his previous warning that Trump is “fascist to the core.”
Milley, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Trump, joined Ruhle at a Pallas Foundation event on Wednesday, and portions of their talk aired on the network this week.
Ruhle asked Milley if there is concern about potential retribution or even court martial trials from incoming president.
“I would imagine right now that there is probably some eyebrows raised in the Pentagon or out in units. I don’t think they are obsessed with it. They don’t know what it means, they don’t know what it consists of. No one has actually laid this stuff out,” the retired general said.
“We’ll soon find out,” Ruhle said.
“Bottom line is: Breathe deep, America’s going to be okay. There’s a lot of waves out there, but this is a big, strong country, 380 million people, great institutions, great people, great work force, great younger cohort of people that are going to protect America,” Milley responded.
According to Bob Woodward’s book War, Milley issued warnings about Trump being an authoritarian and even referred to him as “fascist to the core.”
“He is the most dangerous person ever. I had suspicions when I talked to you about his mental decline and so forth, but now I realize he’s a total fascist. He is now the most dangerous person to this country,” Milley told Woodward.
