Man & woman fight outside bar; wanted man with paranoia arrested in backyard: Brook Park police blotter

BROOK PARK, Ohio –

Assault: Snow Road

A Brook Park woman, 38, told police Nov. 7 that her boyfriend roughed her up early that morning at Solid Gold Lounge, 15005 Snow.

It was the boyfriend, however, who contacted police at about 1 a.m. that day. His mouth was bleeding. The man, 36, said he was drinking in Solid Gold with the woman when she suddenly punched him.

The man smelled like alcohol and his speech was slurred. His story kept changing and he refused to write a statement.

Police visited the woman at her home. She said she and the man had argued in Solid Gold after having a few drinks.

The woman said the man ripped off her necklace and walked out of the bar. She followed him outside, fearing that he would vandalize her vehicle.

Outside, the man dragged the woman by her hair, causing her to fall to her knees. In self-defense, the woman swung her hand at the man while holding her cell phone, hitting him in the face.

The woman returned to the bar to pay her tab. When she walked outside again, the man was gone. The woman declined to press charges against him.

Drug possession: Slater Drive

An Independence man, 35, called police at about 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8 and said that several people were chasing him and his girlfriend, 31.

The man and his girlfriend called from a Slater home, where they were temporarily staying. He said a professional ride service had driven them there from The MetroHealth System in Cleveland.

The man said that during the ride, he and his girlfriend were followed by a silver vehicle. After they were dropped off on Slater, the man and woman heard screeching tires, causing them to run into the home’s backyard and hide behind bushes.

The man heard trees rustling and saw a male on the back porch. He was unable to describe the male to police.

The man led police to his girlfriend, who was still in the backyard, ducked in a stairwell. The man walked to the stairwell and rummaged through a bag.

Police, after identifying the man, learned that several warrants had been issued for his arrest, and that he had previously been arrested in Brook Park for cocaine possession. They placed him in handcuffs.

The man told police he wasn’t on drugs. He said he suffered from paranoia, anxiety and bipolar disorder. Police found what they believed was cocaine in the man’s bag.

Then the resident who lived in the Slater home arrived. He said the man and woman had stayed at his house but he didn’t want them there anymore.

The man was taken to jail and the woman, who said she was homeless, was taken to a women’s crisis center.

Operating a vehicle under the influence: Holland Road

A Parma man, 30, was arrested at about 3:30 a.m. No. 10 for driving drunk on Holland.

Police had responded to Holland home regarding a man trespassing. As police arrived, they saw a van back out of the driveway and head eastbound.

Police followed as the van turned southbound on Smith Road and westbound on Richard Drive. The van pulled into a driveway on Richard and parked. Police parked behind the van.

The van’s driver, later identified as the Parma man, stepped out of the vehicle. He said that his sister’s coworker lived in the Holland home. While he was there, his sister and the coworker started arguing, so he left.

Police smelled alcohol on the man. His speech was slurred. The man admitted coming from a bar. He failed field sobriety tests.
