A 35-year-old man who went kayaking at the Alpha Quarry died after being pulled from the water Sunday evening by emergency responders, state police said.
New Jersey State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron told lehighvalleylive.com troopers were called for a reported kayaker in the water. Borough police and firefighters later found Justin Lusk of Alpha floating in the water at the quarry, but still breathing, Lebron said. The privately-owned quarry is at Hobson and Vulcanite Roads in the borough.
Lusk was then taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries. He later was pronounced dead at the hospital, Lebron said.
Lebron declined to elaborate on specifics about the injuries. The case, including cause and manner of death, remains under investigation by New Jersey State Police’s Marine Services Bureau.
“No further information is available at this time,” Lebron said.
