(WNY News Now) – A Jamestown man was arrested for driving while intoxicated early Tuesday morning after leading police on a high-speed pursuit through city streets.

Jamestown, N.Y. – At approximately 2:30 AM on November 27, 2024, officers with the Jamestown Police Department were conducting a Gun-Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) detail when they observed a vehicle speeding down North Main Street. The vehicle was traveling at an excessive rate of speed and swerving into the parking lane before making sharp, evasive turns.

The officers followed the vehicle, which continued to speed through city streets before coming to a stop on Glasgow Avenue at William Street. After stopping the vehicle, police identified the driver as 31-year-old Hansel A. Collado of Jamestown. During the traffic stop, officers suspected that Collado was under the influence and took him into custody for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and several traffic violations.

Collado was processed at the Jamestown City Jail and charged with DWI, DWI Per Se (driving with a blood alcohol content over the legal limit), and several traffic infractions. He was later released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Jamestown City Court to face the charges. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
