Turkey Trot: Get ahead of those Thanksgiving calories with the Windy City Strider’s annual Turkey Trot, a five kilometer race starting at the Tate Pumphouse. Register in advance online, or get there early to register the day of. The race starts at 9 a.m., Wednesday.
Thanksgiving Dinners: If you aren't feeling up to cooking a whole buffet for yourself, check out some community options. The Elks Lodge is hosting a free community dinner from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving day. The Hangar will have a traditional buffet, but reservations are required. Reservations for The Hangar start at 10:30 a.m.
Ice Rink at David Street Station: The ice rink at David Street Station opens on Friday. Enjoy the fresh ice as you skate around a giant Christmas tree.

Black Friday: Work off your turkey-woes with some retail therapy on Black Friday. Many of the local shops are having specials
- Babe and Ruthie: Black Friday starts early on Thursday night for this store. There will be sales, a raffle and roll-a-dice for additional discounts.
- Wyoming Camera Outfitters: Starting Thursday, stop by Wyoming Camera Outfitters for up to $600 in savings. They will be open 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday, and they will be open their normal hours on Friday.
- Gear Up: Open Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Gear Up will have many sales going on. Get 40% Smith bike helmets and all bike clothing. There is 25% off all outerwear, winter boots, workwear and bikes.
- Casper Cigar Company: This store will be open Friday with various deals in-store.
- Babe and Ruthie Vendor Village: After their Thursday pre-Black Friday sale, Babe and Ruthie will be hosting their first-ever vendor village. On Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., stop by for hand-made jewelry, color analysis, nail accessories, home-based wellness supplies and much more.
- Barn Lights and Mistletoe Nights: Hosted at The Barn at The Five Deuces, there will be a vendor village Friday and Saturday. This could be your one-stop-shop for all your holiday shopping needs.
Hallmarket at David Street Station: If you didn't get enough shopping done on Black Friday, head down to shop through local vendors at the holiday market at David Street Station on Saturday.
Tree Lighting: To finish the week off, stick around after the Hallmarket to see David Street Station's large Christmas tree turn on for the first time. The tall tree is surrounded by the ice rink.
