Murder charges have yet to brought against the mother but she currently faces several other felony charges but police say that once the medical examiner determines a cause of death those charges will likely be upgraded, according to the Osceola County Sheriff
A Florida woman was arrested in connection with the death of her daughter after witnesses reportedly saw her hold the 14-year-old’s head underwater in a bathtub, according to police.
Kelsey Glover, 35, is now facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery charges. Those charges have the potential to be upgraded to murder charges after the medical examiner rules on an official cause of death, Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez said at a press conference late Wednesday.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Florida home on Wednesday after receiving calls of an armed disturbance. When deputies arrived the disturbance was reportedly still going on, according to Lopez.
Deputies reportedly found Glover with a hammer in her hand and when she refused to drop it deputies were forced to wrestle the hammer away from her to prevent her from striking a witness who was reportedly trying to prevent Glover from harming her daughter, Lopez said.
“When the officers get there, there’s actually wrestling a hammer away from her, and she’s trying to strike the lady who is trying to prevent her from harming her daughter. It was just something that we caught in the act, and God only knows which direction that was going to go if we didn’t get there on time and kick the door in,” Lopez said.
According to police witnesses told them that they had seen Glover holding her daughter's head under water in the bathtub and the 14-year-old was unresponsive when deputies found her in the upstairs bathroom.
"They tried to stop her but were not successful. Eventually, Ms. Glover began attacking and chasing these witnesses around the house with a hammer," Lopez said.
Glover was allegedly "a little uncooperative" with police and the sheriff’s office are still investigating a possible motive behind the incident, according to Lopez.
The 14-year-old, who is not being identified at this time, was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving, Lopez said.
According to Lopez there were four people in the house at the time of the incident including Glover, the victim, another child who lives with them and an unidentified adult resident.
Police said that there was another instance of domestic violence at the home when Glover allegedly battered the teenager’s father. The father reported obtaining an injunction against her, according to Lopez.
Lopez said that his office has opened a homicide investigation into the incident.
"It's a dark day when things like this happen," Lopez said. "What happened to her is unimaginable and we are determined to get justice.”
