Body of young baby found in field after large area cordoned off

A baby has been found dead in a field in Greater Manchester.

Forensics officers are investigating the area around Ashtons Field and the Linnyshaw Loopline in Little Hulton, Salford, today.

Police confirmed the body of a young baby has been found off Cleggs Lane, but they have not released further details at this stage.

A press conference is expected to take place around 5.30pm.

The police presence is focused on a grassy area surrounded by trees just off an industrial park next to the M61 motorway.

A forensics tent has been set up right by the entrance to Ashtons Field on Cleggs Lane, just a few metres from the motorway bridge.

Numerous residential streets are located nearby.
