Lucas, has been sentenced to two consecutive life terms for the murder of her two young sons, 6-year-old Maurice and 9-year-old Jayden. On November 8, 2023, the victims’ families were shattered by the news that Lucas had used a firearm against her own children in their bedroom, a heinous act that she initially described as “an accident.” According to reports, Lucas claimed that her actions were the result of being “manipulated through Facebook, through the internet, or through Wi-Fi into doing what she did.” This led to her initial defense strategy, where she claimed she was not legally sane at the time of the shootings.
The incident initially came to light when a neighboring couple found Lucas in their driveway and subsequently discovered the horrifying scene inside her home. The neighbor’s immediate response was to call 911, reporting that Lucas had distressingly claimed her “kids were dying.” In the aftermath of her arrest, Lucas told investigators during police questioning, “I’m in such a bad spot,” and lamented her actions by saying, “I’m so stupid.” She maintained that she “would never do anything like this unless someone manipulated me.” The progression of the case saw a drastic shift last month when Lucas’s defense team informed the prosecution that Lucas intends to enter an open plea—meaning she will plead guilty without a plea agreement in place.
