The Marion County Sheriff's Office said a 14-year-old girl was arrested Thursday in connection with the shooting death of 14-year-old Marshaun Jones.On the evening of Oct. 23, MCSO deputies responded to a residence in the Marion Oaks subdivision following reports of a shooting. That's where they found Jones deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.Deputies said the two juveniles were gathered at the home "to hang out and smoke marijuana," MCSO said.Witnesses told deputies they heard a gunshot, followed by the girl exclaiming that she "didn't know it was loaded." The statements were corroborated by security footage obtained during the investigation, MCSO said. The girl initially denied firing the weapon, claiming that it accidentally discharged when someone dropped it. She later admitted to hearing Jones pull the trigger, which led her to believe the gun was unloaded. She then stated she grabbed the firearm and pulled the trigger while it was pointed at Jones' face.Based on witness statements, video evidence, and THE girl's own account, detectives arrested her on a charge of aggravated manslaughter of a child.
